My Work

Having grown up on a farm in East Cork my work is influenced by my local flora and fauna along with the rich landscape around me. My artistic vocabulary is nourished by a diverse range of contemporary art and design and also old ceramic vessels and trinkets from my grandparents home. I believe in the beauty of handmade objects and like to see the mark of my hand on my fired art works.

I mainly work with porcelain and hand build all of my work. I am interested in pattern and use seeds and heirloom textiles to create subtle surface decoration on my art pieces. I use pattern as a means of exploring the nature of abstraction, representation, and beauty. What is most compelling about the use of pattern is that it’s meaning can be elastic and fluid. My aim is to create unique, well-conceived individual ceramic objects. The ideal is to create sculptural works with qualities that will enrich the viewer’s life.

I have employed Martha to host "Mindful Making with Clay" on my Yoga Teacher Training, to help the students connect with a creative flow, learn new skills, and enjoy a relaxing and satisfying activity while discussing ecology, mindfulness, and culture in a group.Martha leads the workshops in an engaging, encouraging, uncomplicated, gentle, and accessible way. She helps her students discover their own creative potential. Easy-to-follow instructions make Martha's workshops ideal, both for beginners in clay and more experienced art and crafts enthusiasts. Her insightful and reflective approach leads to a deep and fulfilling experience with a takeaway ceramic piece to cherish forever.
